Nga Ringa Whakahaere o te Iwi Maori ("NRW") is an independent national network of Māori traditional practitioners or "Whare Oranga" established in 1993 to achieve greater recognition for Māori traditional health and healing practices
Our kaupapa is about creating:
(i) An authoritative and unified voice in respect of Māori traditional health and healing; and
(ii) A representative organisation to uphold, promote, protect and sustain the practice of Māori traditional health and healing
A key part of this kaupapa has involved ratifying a set of National Standards developed by traditional practitioners for use by traditional practitioners. The National Standards are voluntary, and aimed at ensuring a consistent quality of service delivery in a way that allows each Whare Oranga to maintain authority over their own tikanga and practices. Strengthening the monitoring and evaluation of the National Standards, and the capacity of Whare Oranga to deliver quality services in the community, is a major focus for NRW.
