AIO Healing Newsletter Issue No. 3
1 February 2006

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa

Nga mihi. Holiday times are nearly all over. Time to get down into some serious planning for 2006. Whether it be study, new projects, putting those New Years resolutions in to ACTION or just taking time out to do some self care. After all, what is wealth with out good health.

"When Health is absent, Wisdom cannot reveal itself; Art cannot become manifest; Strength cannot be exerted; Wealth is useless, and Reason is powerless."
    Ardmore Herophiles (300 b.c.)

Did you overindulge over the holidays? Read on to find some suggestions to replenish your body.

Herbal Body Wraps are an excellent way to rejuvenate and deeply cleanse the body through the pores of the skin. We have found that wrapping a mixture of Kawakawa, Puriri and Kopukopu leaves, work wonders as a poultice for drawing out poisons from infected wounds, reducing the swelling from Edema and feeding natural nutrients into the body. Some of these leaves are growing fresh in the back yard.

The other alternative for Herbal Body Wraps is to sculpt the body, drawing out poisons that are sitting in the fat cells so that you lose inches effortlessly. Life Force offer more information here. Click on this: https://lifeforce.net/Main/product_detail.asp?bid=12

For those wanting a more natural slimming agent that is growing in the garden, the University of Otago, School of Pharmacy have some information online about Patete. Patete is great for regular bowel movements after each meal. At times, 2 to 3 days worth of meals can be held in the intestines and colon. Click here to see pictures and more info on Patete: http://pharmacy.otago.ac.nz/rongoa/pages/patete.htm

Regular cleansing of the colon is recommended to enhance your health in so many ways. Read these new articles:

A walk or light exercise after a meal is recommended to help digest the food and to stay healthy. Grated ginger in water before and after a meal aids digestion and a cup of Kawakawa juice after each meal not only aids digestion but gives you a good clean out. Kawakawa is well known to keep the blood clean and clear, unclogging any blockages in the body as well as flushing the kidneys and liver. We got some great pictures of Kawakawa in Waikaremoana. See them here:

Summer weather can dehydrate the body. Try to drink 2 - 3 litres of water a day. Tea, coffee or alcohol dehydrate the body even further. One single cup of caffeine or alcohol causes the body to urinate two cups of fluids. Water is important for flushing the toxic waste out of the body. If there is no fresh water, then the body will use the fluids already in the body. I liken this to washing the dishes in yesterday's dirty water. Hence blockages occur which in turn creates aches and pains.

Many of our clients drink a litre of water each day, however, when they worked out how many cups of tea, coffee and alcohol they drank each day, they soon realised that they had just pissed out all their water intake for the day. The book 'Cries for Water' by F. Batmanghelidj is very informative reading recommending the importance of hydrating the body with everyday water. His research is astounding yet simple. See our books section: http://www.aiohealing.com/store.html

Hot water in the morning can bring on a bowel movement. Drinking a glass an hour before each meal, a glass an hour after each meal then another glass before bed will keep your body amply hydrated. Ideally, your urine should be clear and light in colour. Dark coloured urine means you are probably dehydrated. The increase of water intake results in salt loss in the urine. Dizziness, feeling faint or cramps indicate that body is salt and water deficient. 1/2 a teaspoon of sea salt per 8 - 10 glasses of water is recommended per day.

Te Wananga-o-Raukawa will be debating "What is the Practice of Rongoa Maori?" at a Rongoa conference in Otaki from 9-11 February. Hosted by the students and staff of Hauora Studies, the hui is designed to encourage scholars and practitioners to investigate, amongst other things, the place of rongoa in Maori wellbeing; measuring the impact of rongoa Maori; the diversity of rongoa Maori; the theory of Maori healing and the role of a national rongoa body. Invited guests include Dr Mason Durie, Mahinekura Reinfelds, Leonie Pihama, Charles Royal, Maryanne Baker, Harry Kereopa, Mara Andrews, Wi Keena, Sue Hawkins, Helen Taiaroa and Tariana Turia.
