AIO Healing Newsletter Issue No. 4
5 June 2006

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa

It is time to look at maintaining that wellness as it's winter time again. Pull out those overcoats, scarves and boots and wrap up nice and warm. Makariri ne ra?! We'll be looking at some liquid vitamins this time to boost your immune system plus some old favourite remedies.

Soups and boil ups with watercress and puha are wonderful for coughs and colds plus they help make the bowels move. The alkaline quality of boil ups and soups seem to neutralise the acids in the body and help make colds and flu better.

Kawakawa juice has this same alkaline effect and cleans the blood too. Pearl Barley water and kawakawa is known to be good for urinary infections. Works much better than Ural from the chemist.

We like to have our kawakawa juice hot, first thing in the morning but some kuia like to have it after each meal. Sometimes if we've missed it in the morning, we have it like a tea before we go to bed. Of course you can buy Kawakawa tea in the health shops but Nanny reckons freshest is best.

For those of you who are busy studying, Kia kaha, Kia toa, Kia manawanui. The pressure will be coming on now with assignments coming out of your ears. Little and often is the answer. With work, family, marae and study committments, life can get a little hectic. Quiet meditation is often a good tool to use when doing assignments so you can link in to your creative, spiritual and feminine side.

Coffee, chocolate and caffeine drinks are known to improve mental alertness but the long term effects of caffeine are unknown. There are meant to be over 150 different chemicals in coffee and it is known to wipe out all your daily vitamins with just one cup.

However, this web page shows research from 15 students having great effects from caffeine; memory retention, longer attention span and concentration:

The following web page reports caffeine as operating using the same mechanisms that amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin use to stimulate the brain and concludes caffeine to be an addictive drug:

This web page speaks of changes in mood, insomnia, anxiety and even birth defects in rats:

Michael and I try to cut down the tea and coffee intake and have cups of hot water instead. Better for you. The body needs at least 2 - 3 litres of water a day to get rid of wastes and water acts as a cushion for joints and disks. Warm and hot water enables the body to spend all its energy on flushing the poisons from the system. Drinking cold water makes the body work harder and all the energy goes into heating the water first before it can flush the wastes out of the body.

My Nanny used to drink hot water all the time. On reflection, I think she was really on to it. Mind you, Nanny used to like eat dripping sandwiches and bread sops (Yuuuuum) but we won't go there shall we?

Meanwhile back in 2006, the vitamin resurgence is on the move. Liquid vitamins are becoming more and more viable and sensible. With the baby boomers turning 50, people are flocking in to health food shops, chemists and supermarkets to buy vitamin pills. Research has proved that 75% of the non-poo waste found in public portable toilets are vitamin tablets that are still in tablet form. Even the slow release vitamin tablets are still in whole tablet form. In the states, plumbers complain of drains being blocked from a surplus of vitamin tablets. Moumou? What a waste of money?

Liquid vitamins on the other hand, go straight in to the blood stream within minutes. No waste. Effective and efficient. My mother has used 'Floradex' for years when she became run down from the flu. Costs around $20 and works well enough for the price.

I have used 'Body Balance' on and off for many years. It's another liquid supplement which is a whole food too. Life Force manufactures it and it has 74 minerals, nine sea weed vegetations, a vast range of herbs, ionic supplements derived from whole-foods, such as aloe vera, black cherry, honey and so much more. You can find more information on this page: https://lifeforce.net/pdfs/nz/techsheets/BodyBalance.pdf.

Amino Charge is also from Life Force and is wonderful in a smoothie to turn the body in to a fat furnace. Great for losing weight by burning fat and tastes great too. More information on Amino Charge here: https://lifeforce.net/pdfs/nz/techsheets/AminoCharge.pdf

Himalayan Goji Juice is another liquid nutritional supplement that we take daily and highly recommend. Research has shown that many of the world's longest living people consume regular daily helpings of a tiny red fruit found in the Himalayas - the Goji berry. There is plenty more information on their website: http://michaelleon.freelife.com/

Sizzling Minerals are made by US Naturals and are effervescent tablets that dissolve in water. I found these so easy to carry around in your bag when travelling overseas. Unlike the large bottles of liquid form vitamins that weigh down your suitcases and don't go well with customs if they are already opened. The energy boost was great with these and I got just get up and go. Check out the details here : http://www.usnaturals.net/product.aspx

Vast Vitality are the liquid vitamins and more information can be found here: http://www.usnaturals.net/vastvitality.aspx

Joint Care from US Naturals was the most competitive product we found on the market. This liquid formula has 1000mg of Glucosamine - 800 mg of Chondroitin Sulfate, 500 mg of MSM and 10 mg of Aloe Vera as well. Click here for more information: http://www.usnaturals.net/joint.aspx

Amazon Herbs are another liquid form of nutritional supplements with a range of skin care, pet care and gift ideas: http://amazon-herb.amazonherb.net/

Noni Juice is recommended for many things but to my knowledge, it works wonders with diabetes and blood pressure. Marama Te Hata is importing Noni directly from the Cook Islands which makes if far more affordable at only $30 a bottle! Savings of up to $45? You can email her on tererau@yahoo.co.nz

Mihinui ki a 'Nga Ringa Whakahaere o Te Iwi Maori' - the national organization that supports Traditional Maori Rongoa and Healers; contact: (07) 377-8020 or email rongoa@nrw.co.nz

The Christchurch hui was a wonderful success! Photographs have been posted on their NEW WEB SITE. You can check it out on http://www.nrw.co.nz

Well done Mark Ross. Kei te mihi. Kei te Mihi. Kei te Mihi.

If you would like a tumeke web page done for your Hau Ora or just want to enquire then email Michael on admin@aiohealing.com

Hei korero roa whakamutunga maku ko tenei. Nga mihi nui ki a tatau katoa. Ma IO Matua Kore tatau e tiaki e manaaki i enei ra.

Noho ora mai
