Its May already! We are a quarter of the way through 2008! We live in Wellington now. Bit makariri here but the people are awesome. Went to get some veges at the Saturday morning market and there was a group of island men singing and dancing there. You just couldnt help but want to dance to that ukulele music and just for that moment I completely forgot that it was cold and raining. I must admit, I like it here and feel better than I have in a very long time. So are you ready for winter? Ive washed my winter woollies, cleaned my boots and now I am rearing to go.
To begin with, we will have a look at kick starting that immune system. We will then look at inflammation as this affects many different parts of the body, i.e. arthritic joints, heartburn, asthma, heart disease etc. Well identify foods that trigger inflammation and suggest some better choices. Exercise is the answer to healing the systems in the body and well check out some fun options this time. Breath oxygenates the blood and gets everything functioning better. Deep breathing, which many of us do not do, releases stale air and poisons trapped in the lungs. Well show how MÄori did this i ngÄ wÄ o mua. Breast cancer can be a frightening reality for some and I will share my Auntys experience of the breast screening process. WPPD 2008 - World Peace and Prayer Day is coming up on the 18 21 July, 2008. This is about honouring the sacred healing sites, healing PapatÅ«Änuku and celebrating Matariki. Awesome videos on th
is website so scroll down for more info.
Have you been sick from the flu for a while, tired and lacking energy? Boost your immune system up with 3 x 1000mg Echinacea tablets and 3 x 1000 mg Vitamin C tablets a day. This will definitely pick you up, but make sure you take them in the morning so you can sleep at night. Only take these supplements short term though say a week or two. No coffee for a bit as this kills vitamins. Stay away from any dairy products as this creates mucous. Kawakawa will clean your blood and your kidneys. There are kits you can buy from the health shop to clean the liver, the kidneys and the colon. Fasting for a day or two is another option to allow the intestines to concentrate on healing. Drinking 2 mugs of hot water first thing in the morning and then again two hours after tea will warm the body and keep it hydrated. Juicing beetroot, carrot, celery, garlic, ginger and an apple each morning (after your hot water) will detox your liver and feed well neede
d nutrients into your intestines. Just do this for a week or two though. Massage yourself in the shower with coconut oil every day to break down blockages so the blood will flow again. A hot pool or sauna will release poisons through your pores. An infared light penetrates 6 7 layers of skin and allows for deep healing for painful muscles. Spiralina tablets, colostrum and deer velvet tablets are marvelous for helping your immune system but try not to take them with the Echinacea and Vitamin C as its a bit much for your body to take all at once.
Inflammation is at the root of many diseases and the signs are pain, redness, fever, swelling and heat. Sweets, white potatoes, white sugar and white bread are a no no and make inflammation worse but kumara, nuts, fortified cereals, sunflower seeds, bananas, avocados, fish, and whole grains like brown rice and oats will work for you. Fish oils are highly recommended for inflammation. Rubbing it on the affected area works wonders for arthritis but boy does it stink! Take 3 x 1000 mg Fish Oil capsules a day but you have to take them with a substantial meal otherwise you burp that taste up all day. I pour 3 capsules into my morning smoothie and this makes it tasteless without repeating on me. Use canola and olive oils for cooking as oils like sunflower, safflower and corn oils could trigger inflammation. Blueberries and cherries are known to put out the inflammatory reactions as does natural yoghurt.
Exercising regularly is a huge plus in inflammation and diabetes. Remember that program Turn Back Your Body Clock on TV where people had to exercise every day and change their diet for 3 months. In such a short time the scan showed the body had completely reversed some really alarming health conditions. Exercise doesnt have to be grueling and difficult. The City Fitness gym classes have just turned on the lights for me ad they are so much fun. Check out their website. http://www.lesmills.com/waxlyricalvideos
In days of old, MÄori practiced mÅteatea and chants on a regular basis which not only involved controlling the breath or oxygen but also helps release stale air from the lungs. Practicing chants are an active meditation as are Mau rakau, weaving and carving. Honestly whÄnau, our old people were so onto it in the ways of healing. It wasnt just a technique for them, it was a way of life.
My Aunty went to a Breast Screen check at the Hau Ora in Te Mahia and they detected a lump so she was able to have an operation and treatment to stop it from spreading any further because it was detected at an early stage. I also found a lump in my breast last year so I went for a breast screen and it didnt even hurt wahine mÄ. I felt whakama but the the staff were really kind and considerate so to cut a long story short, I all better now too. Here is their website: http://www.nsu.govt.nz
Aotearoa are hosting the World Peace and Prayer Day for 2008. I really enjoyed the wisdom being shared on this website by the indigenous elders. This awesome kaupapa is to come together to look at healing ourselves from learned prejudices and hurts that have been passed on through the generations so that we can accept one another, love one another and most of all, forgive one another. This unconditional healing energy or vibrations will heal our mother earth. Like our indigenous whÄnau, the most significant aspects of the MÄori culture are our relationships with ourselves, our whÄnau, and our kawai tipuna o te Ao.
