Kia Ora Whanau
The Autumn leaves are nearly upon us. I have already lit the fire an then moved the furniture around so I could watch the flames. Forgive me if I have not answered your emails but I lost all my emails somehow. New beginnings! Please email me again if you would like a reply. This month, I will share an article I found on Water. Clear hot soups are wonderfully nutritious for the colder weather and keep the winter rolls at bay. Green tea has numerous health benefits. Pearl Barley works wonders for urinary infections. Wholistic healing can occur through weaving harakeke. Read on for more information.
Are you working at out the gym whanau? Ka pai u. Remember to get into that sauna after exercising to sweat out the poisons and do some self massage with coconut oil while you are in there for your bones and muscles. Try to drink 2 litres of water a day to maintain your body on the inside. Jan from the Director of Training at City Fitness gym in Kapiti says that water is vital in digestion, the transportation of nutrients, the elimination of waste, the cirulation of blood, the lubrication of joints and the regulation of body temperature. Jan says many people are chronically dehydrated for most of their lives and suffer from from high blood pressure, indigestion, ulcers, asthma, allergies, free radical damage, CNA trauma, weakened immune system, Type II diabetes, fatigue, loss of mental clarity and focus and the inability to perform. A dry mouth means you have gone into a serious dehydrated state. Research has shown that many of these can be
treated simply by drinking more water. Other beverages are in fact agents of dehydration, especially coffee.
Clear soups are low in calories and so good for you. It isn't hard to make them. Start with frying onions and garlic (in a little oil) then add either of these veges; pumpkin, potato, marrow, kumara, carrot till they are half cooked then partialy cook some meat, chicken or fish with sea salt then add your stock cubes (or liquid fish stock for seafood). Spice it up some red or green curry and chilly powder then in goes the water. After you bring to the boil, add some fresh coriander, baby watercress, chives, silverbeet or spinach. Simmer for 5 mins then it is ready. For more economical soups, use chicken frames or beef bones. For more exotic soups add king prawns, squid, scallops, salmon or fish pieces. The world is your oyster whanau.
My daughter insisted that I drink 3 - 4 cups of Green Tea as she said the benefits were immeasureable. Antioxidants in green tea are 100 times more effective than Vitamin C. It protects cells from cancer, heart disease, aging, weight loss, wrinkles, rheumatoid arthritis, bone density, bad cholesterol, obesity, Diabetes, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, liver disease, high blood pressure, asthma, ear infections, tooth decay, allergies, food poisoning, blood sugar levels, and boosts your immune system. I prefer the green tea with peach or berries in it.
Ever suffered from urinary infections. Owch! The doctors can't prescribe anything for it and the chemist only has Ural sachets that don't work. Boil some Pearl barley in a large pot and drink the water from it. What a difference? You can fry the pearl barley with butter, onion and garlic which continues to work wonders but you have to drink lots of water too. The pain goes away wahine ma. The pearl barley only costs a few dollars and the water is free.
Weaving harakeke is a magic wholistic healing gift from Papatuanuku and Tane. The oil that emits from the flax has a calming effect for those suffering from addictions plus weaving is an open eye meditation. Some eat flax oil as it is so good for your body but tastes really yucky so you might want to get capsules. I take LSA (ground Linseed - Flax seed, sunflowers and Almonds) daily with powdered psyllium husks in a Sculpt powder drink (vitamin packed protein drink that assists in fat loss) mixed with low fat milk. you can buy a low calorie protein drink from the supermarket if you'd prefer and use water instead of milk. Kei a koe. Patete is taken after kai to assist in weight loss but doesn't taste that great. If you want a recipe then send me an email. Till next month whanau, be well and may you and your whanau continue to experience the many blessings of IO.
