Kia Ora Whānau

Happy New Years! Don’t know about you but I’m glad to see the end of 2019 with all its trials and tribulations. I for one have made it into 2020, stronger and more positive than ever, knowing that challenges are only another opportunity to heal. Clearing and cleansing stagnant energy enables us to move into our full power and intuitive healing wisdom. As per the prophecy of the return of the ancient feminine energies … who will heal Papatūānuku (mother earth) and all her progeny on earth, it is time for US to become one as a collective consciousness and return to our spiritual healing paths. With all the pollution and unrest in this world, how can YOU take part in healing our universe? By doing your own healing! To celebrate the healing transformation for 2020, AIO healing is planning another series of Māori healing romiromi workshops in Hawkes Bay over a four month time frame. There will be a special offer for workshops participants to purchase both my books ‘The Tohuna Kura Waka and He Atua Wāhine at the source of ancient Māori healing wisdom’. Read on. The Keto diet is at the core of a number of chronic diseases because foods laden with sugar are known to cause inflammation in the body. The Keto high fat, protein and low carbohydrate diet is a rongoā that many are turning to all around the world and some say it is a way of life.

When I first saw the Keto diet a year ago, the meal plans and Keto recipe books were complex and expensive. I discovered the facebook pages ‘Keto NZ’ and ‘Keto for beginners’ that had real life stories of people on the Keto diet. They were able to heal themselves from diseases like diabetes, alzheimers, cancer, acne, parkinson’s, polycystic ovary syndrome, arthritis and so many more illnesses that are pain-related. Foods like bread, pasta, cereals, rice, potatoes, alcohols that are high in carbs and sugar, french fries, white flour and high carb vegetables and fruit, are not allowed on the Keto diet. The Keto facebook pages show a variety of yummy low carbohydrate alternatives. How does the Keto diet work? When the body is in a state of ketosis, it burns the bad fat in the belly area that hold poisons and toxins. Poisons in the fat cells cause inflammation, pain and disease. When you eat healthy fats, the bad fats are pushed out and your body becomes inflammation free. To be effective, you need to daily balance the macros that are these 3 categories of foods;

1. 70 - 75% high fat food – like fatty meats, chicken, cream, butter, coconut oil, olive oil almond butter, seeds, cheese, nuts, fatty fish, avocado, egg yoks, bacon and MCT oil. All of these foods are low in carbohydrates but high in fat.

2. 15 – 20 % protein foods – like eggs, avocado, chicken, meat, canned fish, cauliflower, and shelled fish like shrimps.

3. 5 – 10% low carb foods beverages that are high in fat but low in carbohydrates. For example, you would choose fruit and vegetables that are low in carbs like lettuce, broccoli, silverbeet, cabbage, mushrooms as well as berries like strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.

The Carb Manager phone app calculates the balance of Keto macros that you eat to stay in ketosis and burn away unwanted fats sitting in the body. Alternatively, you can use google when you go shopping to see how many carbs are in the food or drinks you want to buy.

The only downfall of the keto diet is that it can be hard on the liver. The liver has to work hard to break down all the fats you are eating on the keto diet. After a year of being on the keto diet, I have become what you call ‘lazy keto’. I jump off the keto diet either once a week or once a fortnight to eat whatever I want to then I go back onto the keto diet again to reset my metabolism. Another way to reset your metabolism is through intermittent fasting. For example, eating dinner at 7pm then not eating again until 10 or 11am the next morning. 12 to 16 hours of fasting, helps the liver to restore itself. Another way to clean the liver is to add a sprig of rosemary to a big mug of hot water or to put lemon juice in hot water and keep refilling your cup for a few hours. No need to go to the health shops when you can be your own rongoā expert at home with your whānau.

The theme of the traditional Maori romiromi healing workshops series has a special focus on ‘ordinary people doing extraordinary things’. Our last Hinepuawaitanga (the blossoming of the women) romiromi wānanga series in 2019 was specifically for wāhine Maori wanting to do their own healing for their whānau. These evaluations can be found on my public AIO Healing facebook page. As a lifetime student and teacher of Te Oomai Reia Romiromi as taught to me by the late Hohepa De La Mere, it is an honour to share his ancient philosophies of healing in workshops. Men and women of all cultures are welcome to message me with their expression of interest for these Te Oomai Reia Romiromi workshops. No experience necessary and beginners are welcome. You will need to bring your own massage table or foam mattress and kai to share. On Saturday night, we will head off to the Ocean Spa hot pools in Napier. Be in quick to secure a place as there are only 20 spaces for each workshop with a few scholarships available.

The anniversary for my published books came up in December 2019 so for workshop participants, once your registration is paid, I am offering a special of $49.99 for both books He Tohuna Kura Waka and He Atua Wāhine at the source of ancient Māori healing wisdom. Please read these books before your attend the workshops or email me if you prefer the pdf formats of both books on special for $29.99. Many have deep healing journeys when reading my books and can relate to my personal healing experiences. See more information on my website or on my Facebook page AIO Healing.

Look forward to seeing familiar faces at the workshops and meeting new faces as well. Enjoy the remainder of the holiday season and let’s have the best year ever in 2020.
